* I called GE about OMTool from an ad I saw in Object magazine and they faxed me an info pack.
Their tool is in the $5K range and runs on Unix boxes. They say it is for industrial sized
projects, and it's the one they use in-house. They also provide object oriented analysis,
design and programming classes and consulting.

Rational sells CASE tools supporting Booch notation: Rational Rose
(runs on Motif systems) ($3995) and Rational Rose for Windows (runs on
PC compatibles with MS Windows 3.0 or 3.1) ($495). The latter was
developed (and is still being developed) by our company, Palladio
Software, so my opinions may be biased. The Windows product is
very easy to use and learn, and at $495, allows you to get into
the CASE market at a more reasonable price than some other CASE
tools. Granted, it is missing some features common to most CASE
tools, like code generation and reverse engineering, however these
features are under development. To receive more information
or a free demonstration diskette, call Rational at (408) 496-3700.

Right now we are developing a complete CASE tool. Complete means that
we will support analysis, design, implementation, debugging, and
writing of user's and programmer's manuals, plus whatever we'll come
up with later.
As I said, this tool is being developed. On the Cebit trade show in
Hannover, Germany, in March '93 we will introduce a prototype that
will support Analysis only.
The tool, called "TOOL", will use the Object Behavior Analysis, a
methodology developed by ParcPlace Systems, a well known company in
the object-oriented field. The tool, however is developed by our
company, see below.
For more information on either the tool or OBA, please mail to

I've used Palladio SW's (414) 789 5253 design tool Object Oriented Designer.
It implements Booch's methodology (very well, I think). It runs under
Microsoft Windows, provides support from requirements analysis, through
specification, to preliminary technical design.
I haven't seen the latest version (mine is 1 version earlier), so contact
the company for the most reliable info on the product.

Finally, send mail to Shelly at Rational (shellyr@mail_pc.rational.com ). If you ask nicely and
send your surface mail address she may send you a nifty info package about Rational's
Unix and PC CASE products and a Booch template.
BTW I read in the info package that Booch's notation is in the public domain. Does anyone know
if the Yourdon and Coad or the Rumbaugh methods are also PD? I figure Wirfks-Brock et al are
since their method advocates using 3x5 cards.....
I'm interested in finding out about Yourdon and Coad because I really like their books and their
notation, but their tool is mucho dinero ($2K vs $500 for the Booch tool, which I believe has more
features).
