what dose "General Protection Fault" error mean?

I got an application error "PROGMAN caused a general protection fault
in module KRNL386.exe at 0001:8EFA" under win32s/win3.1.(The program
was running perfect under Windows NT).

My first question is why it's in module KRNL386.exe? because My PC is 486.
Second, what this error message mean? and How to debug my program?
Any suggestions will be apperciate!
