I would like to use VB script or any scripting language to automate
the procedure of closing a program gracefully.
For example closing Notepad: Activate Notepad, sending CTRL-S and
finally sending ALT-F4
Can somebody help me with this problem?

See the thread "sending messages to an application". And just a
hint: Notepad does _not_ save with ctrl-S ;-)
