Why would I want to download unknown software with unknown
functionality from an unknown company recommended by an unknown person
who is not willing to give their full name?

Not to fear -- this appears to be benign cybersludge rather than
a viral vector. Note that the anonymous recommender hails from
the product vendor's domain name. The touted product's
promo page hawks features like a
"Staus[sic] Bar to indentify[sic] and control program objects".
No tanks, my nobnects non't need indentifation.
Anybody remember the good old days when the 'Net dealt in
INFORMATION before the schemers, suits and clueless wonders
elbowed their way in?

Its there . . . but the software ("1st of 4 offerings") won't help
much in Win95. It is a configurable program launcher, a series of
tabbed pages containing launch buttons (e.g., by category of
programs).

mmm... I like spam. Where do I send my cash? Whatever the software is, I
just feel the urge to rush out and buy it. :)

I would have to agree its terrible, it seems that, ominous as it
sounds, we need to have the Spam Police. When someone
posts stuff that is off charter, especially in UseNet, warn them
once then pull their account. Repeat offenders with different
accounts would be FINANCIALLY responsible. Maybe a $5K
fine for improper posting would be about right. Then, if they
don't pay, we simply confiscate their computers (forfeiture
laws you know) and don't try and tell me it was your 7 year
old boy who did it because we'll take your puter anyway...
