I just installed Win 98 beta 3 all by itself on a 2 gig fast/wide SCSI. I'm
running an Abit IT5H 2.0 board and an AMD K6-233. I've been having trouble
running Winstone '97 and '98. In '97, I get an error in the Photoshop 3.05
test. After it completes the Photoshop test and is deleting files, it
always gets stuck in being unable to delete a twain.d8b (or something close
to that) file. I have to abort the test for it to get out of the 'Can't
delete file' routine. In '98, after about 30 minutes of testing, the
benchmark just stops running (within an application). I can then do
whatever I want in that app until I exit it manually. Both tests run fine
in a fresh Win '95 environment. Is this a Win '98 bug??
Thanks..

No, none of the Winstone tests are fully Win98 compatible at this
time. They have promised a newer version that will be in the 1st qtr.
98. Currently NO benchmark utilities are fully Win98 compatible as
none of the authors see the need to release a benchmark for beta
software. Benchmarks must be designed for the OS'es they are designed
to test, not vice versa.

Instead, consider WinTune 98 (now in an ONLINE version at
http://www.winmag.com/wintune). I compared the results to the
database...and was floored. Seems that my Pentium-166MMX machine with
Windows 98 (albeit with 64 MB of SDRAM) blew some respectable Pentium-200
MMX PCs into the weeds...but then, 466 Dhrystone MIPS and 190 MFlops are
decidedly unusual numbers for even a 166MMX to rack up....
