Problem with W98 and DUN

Or specifically, after installing windows 98, using the same tcp/ip
settings as before with windows 95, I connect fine to my ISP, but get
an "unable to resolve host name" message with IE4, Netscape, and all
other internet apps.
I run winipcfg and get a fatal error message, as though the .exe
didn't install properly.
Anyone out there have any suggestions I might try? (a complete
computer novice)?
