From the Windows98 Beta3 Release Notes . . .

"IMPORTANT: Do not set the date ahead in order to test the year 2000. Doing
so may render your machine unusable.

System Warning Date: June 15, 1998
System Expiration Date: August 24, 1998
If you do set the date ahead, and the operating system stops responding, you
can workaround it in the following way.

To correct accidental expiration:
1. Reset the System Date using the system BIOS or start the system from
an older operating system floppy disk (MS-DOS 6.x or Windows 95 original
edition).

IMPORTANT: Do not start the system with your Windows 98 Emergency
Startup Disk, or it will be rendered invalid also.

2. Restart the system with your Windows 98 Emergency Startup Disk, and use
the SYS command to restore the original operating systems files on your
hard disk.

3. Remove the Windows 98 boot floppy, and then restart your computer."
