Do the _only_ sensible thing, (remembering to have good boot disks with
CD-ROM drivers) reformat your hard disk install plain DOS and load 98 clean-
then load your applications etc.
Otherwise, the machine will always be 'your friends' - set-up and customized
(maybe crippled) the way s/he liked it.
Unless you have a pretty outlandish hardware setup or faulty devices, this
will also have the effect of eliminating all these oddities.
Sure you'll probably be able to carry on a bit further, the way you're
going - look in Start->Control Panel->System->Performance->File
System->Troubleshooting, anything checked? It shouldn't be. What will go
wrong next?
Proceeding with an upgrade on what must be considered an unstable system is
a recipe for disaster and unhapiness through continuous crashes, hangs and
failures.
