In an effort to see just how well Win98 can do at automation and
power-saving, I tried to set it up in a way that when I'm at work, it will
automatically check my mail two times, update all my subscriptions, and get
itself online shortly before I get home.
I had a lot of trouble, and I'm a little dissapointed how its all
working together - and I certainly hope that its something that will be
improved upon as the beta continues.
I couldn't make the Task Scheduler automatically run DUN - I had to
write a batch file that runs my DUN connection. That worked fine, and I got
connected. However, using DUN by itself doesn't have the ability to take
advantage of the inactivity-hangup feature that is built into the IE4
connection properties, something that I see as a problem and inconsistant.
My subscritions wouldn't work if my computer was in sleep mode, I would have
to make a 'dummy' task using the Task Scheduler to wake up my computer in
order for my subscriptions to update correctly.
In all, it seems that the Task Scheduler, Subscriptions, DUN, and ACPI
should work together in a better way instead of being alienated and
different.

Have any of you found a better way to make your computer automate tasks
and still take advantage of ACPI?
