Just wondering if any of you know what MS policy is regarding free
upgrades.

If I buy NT3.51 now, will I have to shell out more $ for NT4.0 in a few
months, or will they float me up to 4.0 for free? Often companies
will do this if you buy just before a major version is released. Any
hard information on this?

Thanks,

Mark

Technology Upgrades will be available for NT 4.0, but these
only apply for purchases usually upto 90 days prior to the
official launch of the product to upgrade to.
The problem at this time is as no official date exists for the
retail availability it would be a dangerous gamble to buy now
and hope NT 4.0 arrives 90 days from now ;-)
If you really need NT now then bite the bullet and get NT 3.51
now and pay the upgrade price (still less then the retail price)
for NT 4.0 when it finally ships.

Well, I don't think that's an issue at this point. Correct me if I'm wrong,
but the last I heard, 4.00 is not scheduled until sometime in '97, and
indications show it might go the way of '95 and we dragged all the way into
early '98?
In any case, it will definitely not come out in any 'free upgrade' period
there may be if you buy 3.51 now.

Michael,

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 will ship by Q3 1996. It is the release that is in full Beta cycle
at the moment. Beta 2 is about to be released and retail release is expected around
July/August.

I think you must be thinking about the future release of NT codenamed "Cairo" or the next
major release of Windows codenamed "Memphis", these are on '97/98 timescales.
