Can anyone get into the Update wizard on the Windows update page
currently?

My browser tells me that I need to set my security settings to medium
(which of course they are). Setting them to "feel free to do anything
you like" still doesn't let me in (My Ie version is 4.72.2106.8).

If you can get in, and would like to do me a huge favour, please can
someone download the display adapter update and email it to me? Or if
anyone knows an alternate site, then please let me know.

I am growing pretty sick of 640x480x16 let me tell you.

By the way, I have an ATI Rage 3D pro built into my motherboard, which
Win98 detects as an ATI VGA Wonder, and then moans that it is incorrect
at restart.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, anyone fixed it?

TIA

Muff

I'm curious as to how you know about the update, as it is only
offered AFTER you have access to the page and after your system has
been scanned by the server. You must accept cookies and register to
access the Update page in the MS designed manner. You have the Win98
Beta3 version of IE4 , but that doesn't enter into it as all versions
of IE4 can access the page.
BTW - It won't fix your problem (as you stated it ) It is a
fix for monitors than do not restart after suspending. It has nothing
to do with display color depth or refresh rate. Either your display
driver needs changed or updated and/or your monitor selection needs to
be changed. "Unknown monitor" GREATLY restricts refresh rate and color
depth to a "safe" level , so as to limit liability on MS's part if you
do something stupid.

I got into Windows Update without problems.

Did you register your copy of Windows 98? (It won't let you in until you
register.)
I have an ATI 3D Rage (the original) as part of my 3D Xpression with 2 MB of
EDO DRAM onboard and am currently running at 800x600@24-bit color. I'm using
the ATI Rage/Rage II drivers that are included with Windows 98.

I get the 98 betas as part of MSDN. With the documentation it says the
display update is available on the Windows Update site.

I have since heard elsewhere that there are some update dlls that I need,
which still represents a problem as I still can't access the site.

Okeydoke. So I am back to being stuck. My monitor is set correctly. The
interesting part is that if I boot to safe mode, it has the correct
display settings for the ATI Rage Pro (Direct X). If I then boot back to
normal, it reverts to ATI VGA Wonder.

Any ideas?
