Whistler 2257 and radeon 9000

Can somebody help me with this problem? I can install Whistler whitout
a problem. Only when I install a driver for my radeon 9000 (I want to
have 24-bits color instead of 16 color). I can install the driver
manually. But when I reboot my screen goes black and my pc stops
booting. I've tried all drivers (95,98,ME,2000,XP) all with the same
result? Is is possible to get this working??
