Wow, IE4 beta is exellent, I was very skeptical of its web/win95
integration and value, I was wrong. ie4 really
improves on the user interface (toolbar for commonly used apps etc...) the
news reader is lightning fast much
faster than the original microsoft news software. much much more. Netscape
is going to be in trouble when this
finally reaches gold status and is out in the public. so far no crashes or
bugs that I can see.
also, I have a problem with IE4 that it keeps telling me it can not find the
site. it does not even look on the web.. as soon as I enter the URL it says
can not open site.. if I reboot my PC, then it works for a while and then it
does it again..
Another thing is how do I remove the blue background in my Windows
Explorer? It's not stated any where on how to change it.
3rd thing, what is the Active Component for? (The big yellow box sitting
on my desktop)?? What's it's function?
To remove the blue background, you woul need to change the settings in the
html page that is being used, though I don't know where this is stored. My
guess would be that it may be in the pages that are in \windows\web. You
could try changing it from there.
Tho orange box is a place where you can keep objects. MS has an upcoming
web pabe title Active Desktop Components Gallery, which is still under
construction. You can get to it by clicking the link that is in the orange
box itself.
If you want to add a new one, right click on the desktop, select
properties, go to the desktop tab and you will see what you can display on
the desktop. A picture or an HTML page, either locally stored or on the
web.
Hope this helps :)

At least its faster loading graphics.
The toolbars and Web like features of the Integrated Shell, however,
appears to be kindergarten stuff, It reminds me of early DOS graphics.
They just do not make the grade, I'm affraid. My first reaction was that
Microsoft is losing the plot and just does not know which way to go with
the Web, so its throwing everything at us.
It would help if some greater degree of customisation were allowed: I don't
want the favourites menu on all desktop windows. I want the old buttons,
but the html backgrounds to the windows could be useful.

To change the desktop, right click on an open place on desktop, click
on properties, then choose the desktop tab and make your choice.

Remember that MS hasn't released this yet. I'm sure they'll have
new version when they do, I hope.

Also, all the shell integration functions can be turned off completely if
that's what you want.

I don't know if I am in the minority or not, but when i got a hold of
IE4 a while back i could not stand it.. I hated the new interface that
it creates with the file manager, it completly turned me off agenst the
program.. besides that, i didn't see anything that would really make it
stand out fromt the other browsers, but then again it has been a few
week since i tried it out, and i may only be remembering the bad parts
of the program.
