I'm a new Windoze98 pioneer and just installed build 1650 (with some
upgrades from Bill G.). Yes, I know it is several builds behind the
current.
Apparently Win98 has problems with shutdown, reboots, and boot to DOS
mode because a 'fix' from the MS web exists (but it didn't cure my
problem).
My hardware is the Intel Atlanta board (P II, Intel release 7 BIOS),
fast-wide SCSI HD, Adaptec 2940UW controller.
As the subject line states, I want to convert to FAT32 but the utility
won't work because the box won't boot into the DOS mode. I've played
with various BIOS settings with no luck.
Anybody have any ideas before I give up and go back to NT 4.0 & NTFS?

The few times that I have seen this problem is when there is a network
configuration problem. Are you connected to a network? If you have time to
play with it, see if your machine has the same problem after you remove all the
network items from the network icon in the control panel. If it works as a
standalone system, make sure you set your network stuff up with the latest
drivers. Good luck.

Assuming that you are not trying to boot into dos 6.2 and you are
trying to restart in the version of dos that comes with windows beta 3.The
problem may be something like the one that I had with my PII not turning
itself off when I wanted to shut down. The patch from the update did not
fix the problem but I was able to fix it by checking the box in advanced
properties in the system editor.
You might try looking for a file called dos start bat and make shire
that all is well with it's configuration and all that stuff. but that
probably is not the problem. Are you on a network? that may have something
to do with it. Also check to see if you have any TSR's loaded with the Dr
Watson utility
I am a bitl lame at this sort of thing hope I was of some help.
