When installing from DOS, the DOS version of the NT setup program copies
all of the needed NT files to the local HD. This allows you to reboot into
the NT version of setup, where it looks to the local HD for the files to
complete the installation. It seems odd that NT didn't detect your ATAPI
cdrom automatically. I once ran into a situation installing NT where it
didn't recognize the ATAPI cdrom. The reason it didn't was that NT didn't
recognize the older version of ATAPI that the cdrom was using. I eventually
had to buy a new IDE cdrom. Hopefully, your problem is just a glitch or
you just need to get a driver.

Sure. What happened is that you have to specify your ATAPI CD-ROM
when it asks about SCSI devices. The exact one is:
IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
If you make sure that the above SCSI device is installed, you should
be OK.
