From the Display properties list I select Effects, then de-select the
animate menu item. Yet every time I restart my computer (following
normal, crash-free shutdowns) this setting is re-set so that the menus
are animated. This is very annoying and I haven't heard anyone else
mention it yet.

Any ideas as to why this setting isn't being saved?

What build are you running? I haven't heard of
that problem on recent builds...

I'm currently running Win98 RC4, but the problem has existed since
Beta 3. I think I may have fixed it, sort of. There are two users of
this machine and I had to log on has each and turn of the menu
animations. Now the setting seems to stick after shutting down.
But there should be a better way wouldn't you think?

I am using Winhacker 2.0 (it's perfectly legal program) and that allows me
to disable the Windows animations by editing the registry (the program
actually does all the work, I just do the clicking).

Take care,

Les
