help! stop c000026c and c0000221 errors during setup of NT 4 WS

Help!

During the setup process, right after the re-boot step, I get one
of the following messages, then my setup halts:

First using NT file system:

1. Stop: C000026C {Unable to load device driver}
\??\c:\winnt40\system32\win32k.sys device driver could not be loaded

error status was 0xc0000221

restart and set the recovery options in the system control panel or
the /crashdebug system start option

I roboot again, getting

2. Stop: C000026C {Unable to load device driver}
\SystemRoot\System32\Drives\qv.sys device driver could not be loaded

error status was 0xc0000221

restart and set the recovery options in the system control panel or
the /crashdebug system start option

Then reloaded NT, this time formatting partition as FAT

1. Stop: C0000221 {Bad Image Checksum}
The image oleaut32.dll is possibly corrupt

I reboot again, getting...

2. Stop: C0000221 unknown hard error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

I reboot again, getting...

3. Stop: C000026C {Unable to load device driver}
\SystemRoot\System32\Drives\NDIS.sys device driver could not be
loaded

error status was 0xc0000221

restart and set the recovery options in the system control panel or
the /crashdebug system start option

What am I doing wrong? All of my devices are new, and properly
recognized by the setup process:

1. Tyan Tomcat w/ Cyrix 166+ and 40 MB RAM
2. Diamond Video Card
3. NEC 4x4 CD ROM
5. Seagate IDE Drive

Help please!!!

Well, got NT to load, with the following conditions:

1. Changed drive mode to LBA (I have a 1.7GB EIDE)
2. Partitioned into two NTFS drives

So ot works, but why can't NT load on single partition EIDE 1.7 GB
drive... oh well...

I believe the Workstation Resourse kit mentions that the boot drive for
NT40 must be < 504 mb?
