Serial ATA

Can anyone help?

I'm trying to do a repair install of windows xp pro. However when I start
the repair utility it tells me it can not find a hard disc. I believe this
may be because the hard disc is connected using a Serial ATA connection and
there is no other connection available on the hard disc.

So how do I do the repair install or even a complete reinstall if the system
cant find the hard disc?
