I have to fix a box tomorrow; box is NT with SP 3, that started mucking up
after downloading Win MediaPlayer 7.
Is there a problem with MediaPlayer and NT?
Why have SP 3 instead of SP 6?
Where can I get info on Service Packs, and on the appropriate ones?
He says he gets a blue screen-- where or how can I find out what is causing
the mem leak? Is there a way I can find out from what program ( I suspect
it's MediaPlayer)? Or where the specific address resides?
Also, he's thinking about adding another OS, specifically Win 98 ( he really
wants MediaPlayer to work). If he's formatted in fat 32, is it a straight
shoot or are there problems with adding another OS to the hard drive on
another partition?

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaking, Media Player 7 is not suited for Windows NT. The last
version of Mediaplayer which can be used with NT4, is version 6.4

And I think it's always advisable to download and install the latest
servicepacks. The last version is SP 6a, which can be downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/allSP6.asp

FAT32 is not supported by WindowsNT 4. If he wants to use another OS (and
still use Windows NT), the startup partition (which is used by both OSses)
should be FAT16 (not NTFS either, as it's not supported by Windows98), or he
could use a bootmanager (which is my favourite solution.
