Any opinions on whether a ramdrive would be faster for network access than
regular disk access. I have 1024mb memory so I am not worried about using
valuable memory. Please advise. I would like to have all the most used
network files on the ramdrive. From what I know NT4 uses memory as
efficiently as anything.

Please advise.

Server specs:
Compaq 2500 Server & Storage unit
Winnt 4.0svr
[10] 18.2gb seagates
100tx nics x3
[2] Compaq 2DH array controllers 16mb cache
dual 200pro 512kb
1024mb mem

My experience with servers and ram is that the best use of memory is to be
used for disk caching. Once the files are used they will be in memory
anyway and allow faster access, and, the server still handles the files. If
they were in a ramdrive, you manage them to be update on disk. What happens
in a power failure with a ramdrive... by by files!

Supposedly they have much faster access times. But when I ran benchmarks on
it, it did not perform any better than a regular 9GB Ultra Wide SCSI drive.
