1st of the band news. You didn't have to spend the time downloading
Packs 1 and 2. 2 encompases all the bug fixes available in #1.

I'm sorry, but you did get the wrong files. What you have are the
symbol tables for debugging.

Best Wishes

I too have downloaded all 20mb's of NT4SSP2I.EXE, (Service Pack 2 for
NT4) and am a little confused, the hot spot on Microsofts Service pack
indicated that I would be downloading Service Pack 2 for NT4????. I have
done a "trawl" on the keyword "Servpack" and am told how easy it is to
run the service pack, just place the decompressed NT4SSP2I.EXE into a
directory & type update; trouble is the dbg extension doesn't compute,
I've changed the extension of update.dbg to update.exe & the system runs
out of memory!. There is no mention in Help or in the documentation for
NT4, to guide one in the upgrade process, WIN95 is easy. as is OS2. Any
idea where to go for a valid NT4 service pack 2 (warts & all, or better
still service pack 3).

Sorry, but you are running the wrong service-packs.
You need the other service packs which you have not downloaded yet i guess.
But don´t delete the ones you have already downloaded.
Just read the readme files, then you should know what to do with it.
In general: on the Win NT CD there you can find a folder called symbols.
They must be copied into your WinNT directory.
The ones you just downloaded are newer ones which replace the older ones
who belong to the changed system files in your windows directory.

I hope this was a little help.

Pete

Trond, I think that you should have clicked on the FTP option & not the
Service Pack option (as I also did) on the Microsoft NT4 page. Then you
get the option to download SP2 400I.exe (15mb), which I think is what we
need.

Tom,

Try:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes/usa/nt40/ussp2
If you're running on an Intel platform, select the i386 subdirectory
from there. The file you're looking for is SP2_400I.EXE.
