Is the location of Pagefile.sys stored anywhere like the registry? Is
it always going to exist on the root of the WinNT drive? If so is
this file always going to be "continually" written to on an active
system?

Is there any other file on Windows NT that is continually written to
on an active system?

As strange as this might sound I need to find a file on NT that will
always have the current date stamp and can easily be found on any NT
machine.

Hi there, That's an unusual question, to find a file that will always have
the current date stamp. I'd suggest using a few API calls to get the current
date/time, if you need this for programming purposes. Alternatively, you
could use any date/time function calls from your programming language (in VB,
this is the Date () function).

As for the physical location of the swapfile, it will vary from system to
system. The default is on the boot partition (where the WINNT folder is).
The recommended strategy is to spread it across a number of drives, except
for the System & Boot partitions. On active NT machines, it's written to
frequently, and moving it to other partitions/drives will increase
performance.

As for a "guaranteed" file that will exist _and_ be written to on all NT
machines, I can't really think of any.
