Cannot remove folder on desktop

I've had this problem before and I found a solution, but I forget what I
did! I have a folder on the desktop that I wish to delete. I don't know
how it got there. It was during some drag and drop process. Anyway, the
folder appears for all users, and I cannot find the link to it anywhere.
I've searched in the winnt\profiles subdirectory (with hidden attributes
off) and cannot find it. The folder points to a directory, so I can see
the subdirectories within it. Deleting them would remove the directories
from the disk. I can close the folder, which removes it from the screen
for the current session, but it appears again at the next login.

Any suggestions?
