Need switch seting for HP C1536A DAT

I have an Adaptec AHA-2940 Ultra Wide on a Dell XPS Pro200n. The
CDRom is #5 and the HD is #0. I put the DAT in at #3.

The PC configuration settings do not work. I need to write/read with
tar on the PC AND on another DAT connected to a Unix box. I need to
disable automatic compression, which is done by turning switch 1 to
off.

I actually had it "working" last night, but it took 55 minutes to
extract a 5.6 Mb file, when 1-1.5 minutes would have been more
reasonable.

Today, using the Sun settings, I got it to write the tape very
quickly, but it was still taking a long time to extract AND I could
not read the tape on the Unix box.

HP provides no documentation for the dip switches beyond 1 & 2, so I
need to hear from somebody who actually has one of these things
running.

I forgot to mention that I have Adaptecs aspi32.exe installed.
