i have win95 installed and can install nt 4.0 only if i delete the ext.
partition on my 8 gig maxtor ide hd. otherwise it errors out with
"inaccessible_boot_device" error during the setup(after copying files).
i replaced the atapi.sys in the temp folders with newer versions found
in service pack 4 and elsewhere, but it doesn't seem to affect it.
can someone help me...

Is the partition fat32 or fat16? WinNT cannot be installed on fat32

David,

Check the settings for your hard drive in BIOS setup. If the BIOS doesn't
properly identify your drive, you will get this error. You may need to set
the drive parameters manually, or update the BIOS, if an update is
available. You may also want to try installing NT without the extended
partition, then add it back using disk administrator after setup is
complete.

Hi,

I may be wrong but I think that ext partitions and corresponding logical drives
are not bootable. You may have to install NT in the primary partition.

NT lives in what is confusingly called the Boot partition, which doesn't
have to be the primary partition. The loader lives in the System
partition, which generally is the primary partition. (In the wonderful
world of Microsoft, the system lives in the boot partition and the boot
files live in the system partition.)

you're right. the primary partition is 2048mb, fat 16. so are the 3
other drives in the extended partition.
so why do i get this error when the ext partition exists?
