I have a client who needs to collect roughly 86000 15k files from 240
sources (24 hours worth). These will come in at 1 file per second from
cameras to one or more NT servers using FTP.
Is there a limit to the number of files per directory?

Thanks
John

John, see Microsoft KnowledgeBase article PSS ID Number: Q100108

This info is summarized from that article.

A file or volume can be up to 2^64 (16 exabytes or
18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bytes).

There are limitations on the root directory of a volume. But any other
directory is not limited in size or number of files.

NOTE: Underlying hardware limitations may impose additional partition
size
limitations in any file system. Particularly, a boot partition can be
only 7.8
GB in size, and there is a 2-terabyte limitation in the partition table.
