I'm using the HP and it has worked perfectly. I use it regularly to do both
incremental, copy, and full backups using the NT backup software.
I've used the HP 35480A everyday for a year now. It's been flawless
under both NT 3.1 and 3.5. For some reason, the Sony cartridges I have
don't work if the machine is rebooted with the cartridge in the drive,
but the Maxell cartidges do. (It's been so long that it may be if
there is *no* cartridge in the drive on reboot. This happened under
3.1; I don't know it if would under 3.5.)

I'm happy with NT Backup that comes with NT, although no one else on
this newsgroup seems to be. I back up both FAT and NTFS partitions
with it.

I'll second that. My 35480A has worked perfectly. I also have no trouble
reading tapes I have written at work on a couple of other different model
drives (which makes a nice high-bandwidth transport for data, even if the
latency is a little high :-).

I've been using a Wangdat 3200 and it's performed perfectly. I carry it
with me when I travel and it's been a lifesaver on more than one occasion!
I have no complaints.

These are supposed to be good too. I rather doubt 88MB /min - I'd guess
nearer 20-30 - YMMV. This will, however, be a function of your host
adapter and the disk drives you're backing up from as well!

NT Backup seems fine to me although it is probably not rich enough to be
a true enterprise-wide solution. I use it to back up our 6 PCs and it
works ok. You can also look at Arcadia Backup software - this is made
by Connor and is, in essence, a superset of NT Backup.
Hope this helps.

I'm happy with it, it backups my NT on ntfs, and my dos/win3.x on FAT.
I don't see the reason to spend $200 on the upgraded version. What does
it offer BTW, other than support for alot more DAT drivers.?
