I Have Windows NT4.0 Server and a Windows95 Machine connected to it and
logging in. Now I have tried to force the 95 machine to change its
password on the next login by checking the appropriate box in User Manager
for Domains on the server but every time I try that the 95 machine stops
and says "Cannot change the Microsoft Networking password : Access Denied"
and then it brings another dialogue box and says "Windows password
successfully changed" but the NT password stays unchanged.

Is there something that I haven't done , am not doing ?

Please Help

Thank you

What is your server set up as, a PDC or a File Server. The file server
will not change all of the passwords, the Primary Domain Controller will.
Did you run the setup or did the vendor? In example, Dell always sets up
the preinstalls as a file server unless specifically told not to.

If you click the Change Other Password button under Control Panel's Password
icon, you will see that Microsoft Ntworking is an icon. Ensure that that is
ticked. At the same time, ensure that Microsoft Networking is not ticked
under the Change Windows Password button is not ticked if both of your
Microsoft Networking and Windows passwords differ.

Sounds like you are doing it right to me. Do you by any chance have both
the "User can not change password" box AND the "User must change password
at the next logon" box checked? That would do it.

In User Manager on the server, go to Policies/Account. The last
Checkbox is "User must log on in order to change password." This
checkbox must be unchecked for Windows 95 users to change the password
at the next logon.
