greetings,

I need to stop a service on an NT Server server and I want to do this as part
of a script running on a workstation on the same LAN. The script will shell
out to run a batch file, one command of which is to stop a service on the
server.

Of course when I run NET STOP SERVICE it stops the service on the workstation,
not the server. How do I specify the computer name in the command?

Any help with this rudimentary question GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

- Jeffrey

Do you have the NT resource kit?
In the resource kit, there's a program called SC.EXE wich allows you to
manage services, also on remote computers.

No. I guess I'll have to buy it. Is there anyplace I can get this other than
buying the Resource Kit?

thanks,

gee thanks, Jonathon. My understanding is that stopping a service
over the network requires the Resource Kit.

Thanks to those who helped.

I copied SRVMGR.* from my PDC to my workstation. Then I ran it. I don't
remember if it blew up over a missing .DLL (or was that winsadmn). If it
did, I just copied the .DLL over and ran it again.
