Just curious if anyone out there runs Raptor's EAGLE NT firewall
software? If so what do you think of it. I need to protect my company
when we connect to I-net in a few months. Eagle NT has been my choice
for the following reasons:

1 - It is one of the cheapest firewalls I've found.(I might have not
looked that hard though)

2 - It claims to be completely user transparent (i.e no proxy drivers,
or modifications to the client software)

3 - It seems to be a fairly straight forward thing to set up and manage.

One of the things I want to do is set the firewall to have multiple IP
addresses. This is so I can have several HTTP servers (in different
boxes) handled by same firewall. Raptor claimes that this is possible
and easy to set up, but I was speaking with a sales rep, and, frankly, I
don't trust them, because most of people in those positions are
clueless.
If anyone is doing this, please let me know if it works or not.

I have considered Linux for all of that but there are several problems
with that, namely it is probably a lot more work, which normaly I'd
welcome, but I am just swamped with work right now. :( Then, I am the
only person who knows anything about Linux here, and I am not too
concerned with job security. I will bring up a Linux box here anyways,
but mainly for background maintanance type of stuff.

So, in short, if you are using Eagle NT please let me know what you
think of it, or if you know of a better/cheaper solution, let me know
as well.

Michael

This is a blatant plug, since I am a VP at Seattle Software Labs.

We sell the WatchGuard Internet Firewall. The current version runs
under Linux and is a straight dynamic packet filter and costs $1995.

We're releasing a new product line in about two weeks. This includes
a Windows NT and Windows 95 setup programs as well as a Linux setup
program. Logs and notifications can be redirected to an NT or Linux
host. The new product also includes a family of transparent proxies
as well.

The firewall itself runs completely off of a floppy disk under a modified
version of Linux. There are fewer than 100 files on the floppy disk, and
no extraneous programs like network daemons or shells are on the floppy
disk. This makes for a quite secure and solid configuration.

We will sell a software-only version of $2495, and a hardware-software
package that sells for $2995. This is generally available on August
15th.

By the end of the month we are shipping a graphical monitoring and
reporting package as add-ons ($595 and $495 respectively).

Contact us at in...@sealabs.com if this sounds interesting...
