I'm pretty sure it's the client that does the registration request.
Look on the DNS tab of the IP setup and you'll see 'register this
connection's address with DNS'? The DDNS is independant of DHCP.
I don't use MS for DHCP or DNS, but the dynamic registration works
just fine with a Linux DHCP/DNS server.
W2K and later workstation can register the IP in the DNS themselves. Non W2K
ip enabled devices relay on DHCP to do the registration. I've got this setup
running OK, just moved the infrastructure services from NT4 to W2K and works
fine for may winCE terminals, as well as for win98 and WinNT w/s.

Okay, that makes sense.

You can check wether Qualystem LAN PC software system meets
your requirement. PXE or Bootp prom needed if you want to avoid
diskette booting. More details on www.qualystem.com.
Diskless boot made easy. Qualystem LAN PC is aimed to boot Windows,
but if you can afford booting MS DOS 7.x (the DOS part in Windows 9X),
then Qualystem LAN PC can solve your problem.

I've got an NT4 DNS/DHCP server and I can't get DHCP to allocate an
address properly to any clients at the moment - let alone dynamically
register it with the DNS. I don't suppose you know if there's something
specific you have to do to MS DHCP servers to get them talking to
clients and the DNS server? I'm foxed - the setup of the range looks
similar to that of others which worked previously, but those were using
WINS only, not DNS, and I'm not sure what I need to change to get DHCP
and DNS on speaking terms. (The clients are mostly Win2000, if that helps).
Many thanks,
Vicky
