I need to share some files on a unix lan with an NT lan and vice versa. I
have a 10baseT hub on one side(unix) and a Cisci catalyst 10/100baseT switch
on the other lan (NT). How can I set up the unix machines to access the
files on an NT server and vice versa. What problems will I encounter with
the file permissions on each lan?

Many Thanks

Use Samba; the documentation will explain what to do.

I did it off Debian Linux and it involved some reading :)

Once you have loaded Samba on your Unix box (which flavor?), log in as root
and start samba as a daemon, less pain.

You will most likely find the samba config file as smb.conf in the
/etc/samba directory. Edit it to suit your needs.

then I added a client : smbclient -aU "my linux accountname" (not root!!)

log in from your win box and check for your connection on the samba box (as
root) by typing in "smbstatus" at the command prompt.

Have fun with the reading :)
