to give all users the same setup (programs/start menu/default
settings) as the administrator in win2k (not the rights just the
settings such as desktop resolution/background bmp/etc)

ive tried copying the administrators subfolders from documents and
settings to the all users folder but it usually fails with some files
not getting copied

please let me know if you do

cheers

You're on the right track. When copying Documents & Settings
you need to do this:

1. Log on under a second admin account
2. ren "c:\documents and settings\default user"
"c:\documents and settings\default user.org"
3. xcopy "c:\documents and settings\administrator"
"c:\documents and settings\default user\" /s /e /h /c
4. Delete existing user folders

ok klaus i tried it and it seemed to work except it did not copy over
the wallpaper, strange it seemed to copy all the other things

the wallpaper i use is one from 'internet explorer wallpaper'

do you know a way around that, and IF the computername is changed at
any time does that mean that this procedure will not work anymore ?

is the default user tied in any way to the computername ???????

i'm, planning on using this rolling out 100's of pc's and of course all
pc's will need a unique computername

any advice appreciated

cheers !

- Perhaps the wallpaper is defined in one of the locked files. They might
be unlocked if you reboot your machine and log on to admin2
immediately, without ever logging on to administrator.

- I am not aware of the default user being tied to the computer name.
However . . . there is an old trap under NT: Any .lnk file you create
while
logged on as administrator will have the unc name of your PC embedded
as the target location for the executable (e.g. \\YourPC\c$\program files\
microsoft office\office\winword.exe). This is a pain in the neck: These
links
will fail when non-admin users try to use them on another machine. Use
shortcut.exe -s (from the NT Resource Kit) to break this link.
