I have Ethernet throughout the upstairs of my home. I have a room
downstairs I can't get twisted pair to without major wall repair. I thought
the Anypoint phone line network would be the solution.
The configuration is to have a DSL line to an ethernet card in a "server"
win98 platform. The same platfrom has a second ethernet card that serves
(via a hub) the rest of the ethernet PCs. Windows ISS provides the DSL
connection to all PC on the ethernet LAN. Then I added the Anypoint
phoneline card and software to the "server" pc and to the downstairs Laptop
on the phone line. The server and the Laptop can see each other and the
server can see all PC's on the Ethernet Lan but other PC on the ethernet Lan
cannot see the phoneline Laptop and vice versa.
If you think thats confusing, it gets worse. With windows ISS all PCs on
the Ethernet LAN have DSL access but the phoneline Laptop does not. If I
load Intel's version of ISS on the server, the phoneline Laptop has access
to the DSL but the Ethernet PC's don't.
Is there a way to create a software gateway between the Ethernet LAN and the
Phoneline LAN within the "server" that will allow for peer to peer
networking and Internet access across all PC's.

I've been looking for a HPNA 2.0 (10 Mbps) to Ethernet bridge and I
think I finally found one. Only one.
Linksys HPES 03 ($73.95 at www.buy.com)

One that may be coming is the Netgear PE102. It's on the reseller web
sites as unavailable but not yet on the Netgear site. Strange. In the
database as a product but not being distributed yet.
Dlink doesn't seem to have one.
SMC doesn't seem to have one.
3com doesn't seem to have one.

Correction: that is still the old 1 Mbps bridge. So the only hope at
present is that Netgear will actually deliver the PE102.
Routes, Bridges, has a built in analog modem too.
Does everything... but like the others, it's not released! : (
