Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a connetion between a Linux Box and a Win98 PC
using a Null Modem Cable (serial port) with PPP. The problem is that on the
Win98 Box I only can set up a "dial up connection" using a real
modem, not a "Null modem" (the registry lists the direct connection
under Modems, but the connection wizard does not show the direct
connection as a possible Modem).

Any suggestions ??

thank and ciao,

Peter

You want the Direct Cable Connection which is an optional component
in Win98. Grab your CD and open the Add/Remove Programs CP to the
Windows panel and check the Communications items and see if you have
it installed. If so, you should find it in Start>Programs>
Accessories. There are a number of web sites with DCC howto help.

Try to install a new modem - as a type of modem select a direct cable
connection(or something like this)
and try to setup a dialup connection , using this modem.
Another way - in new connection (in dialup connections) select the device to
use - COM- port.
This is the posible way to solve your problem from windows side, linux
side - sorry...
Best regards. Rolly.
