Sharing Internet (Modem) Connection over Ethernet

there a free or cheap way to allow the other computer to use the connection
on my system rather then trying to dial out on it's modem?

I use Sygate. Sygate allows an unlimited number of networked computers to
share one modem without using a proxy, full-featured program, supports
dialup, ISDN, cable modem, xDSL, dedicated Ethernet connections. Setup is

You will need either a proxy server or a network address translation
router (website below). Generally, NAT routers will have wider
application support and use less CPU than proxy servers.
I recommend you try the following:
Softrouter Plus - Vicomsoft (banner).
NAT32 - ACT SOftware
Nshare - Miralink
WinNAT - Routerware
