When I select ethernet adapter from the list of adapters
in winipcfg, and click ok. It seems not working. Because
I run winipcfg again, and it still shows ppp adapter rather
than the ethernet adapter. How can I switch from ppp adapter
to ethernet adapter?
Thanks a lot.

winipcfg only displays info, it doesn't "switch" between adapters. It
will always start with whatever adapter is on the top of the list.

What are you trying to do?

My problem is this:

I have a notebook. When I am home, I use dial-up network to connect to
internet. Of course, this is thru ppp adapter, and it shows in winipcfg.
But when I bring this notebook to my office and use ethernet card (pcmcia)
directly connecting to the LAN. I can't reach to any host on internet.
So I check the winipcfg and it still shows ppp adapter rather than the
ethernet adapter. I think that's why I can't reach the internet world, since
win95 still try to use ppp adapter. How can I let win95 select ethernet
adapter or ppp adapter on line thru LAN or modem, respectively?

Thanks again!

First you have to make sure your office LAN allows you to connect to
the internet, and what settings, if any, you'll need to set up.

On your Laptop, you'll need to goto Control Panel | Internet.
Choose the connection tab, then select the appropriate connection:

Connect to the Internet using a modem
Connect to the Internet using a local area network

This *may* be all you need to do. Your LAN administrator will have to
give you any further info. You may just need to install a client
program to direct traffic to the proxy server (Wingate 3.0 is supposed
to be this easy). Other software (Wingate 2.1 which I'm using) may
require you to set up proxy info for each program you want to use both
at home and at the office, and change those settings each time. This
may be as simple as different shortcuts with different command line
switches, a check box setting, or could require a complete
reconfiguration of the program.
