Greetings all.

I have acquired a FISC CDH 8 Bay Network Attached Storage device to replace
the rather asthmatic small box consumer NAS boxen I been playing with up to
now.
(manual here
ftp://web:nb...@download.ingrasys.com/data01/FISC%20CDH/Manual/CDHman-e.pdf)

I's been set back to factory defaults and when attached to my LAN I can
browse to it and read/write with any XP PC on my LAN.

However when I try to access it from a Vista PC I get the following error:

"\\FISC-BOX is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access Permissions. A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error
occured"

Advice I can find on the web refers to making changes to the 'Windows'
machine that is being accessed.
In this case with the FISC running Linux in firmware it is not an option, so
I need to change Vista so it access's the FISC as if it was an XP machine.

A reply to a post in another newsgroup suggested changing the Vista setting
"Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level Properties" to "Send LM
& NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"
I've done this and I still can't access the FISC box from a Vista PC.

I've looked at the logs on the FISC and it says
"Warning SMB Bad Share Password:Paul:zirco2:TCP/IP:192.168.1.8 "
or "Warning FTP Login Fail:anonymous:SHARE_LEVEL:192.168.1.8 "
Whenever I've tried to access it from my Vista PC (Zirco2)
I don't have a password for the user Paul on Zirco2
Could it possibly be to do with blank passwords?

Can someone guide me what changes I need to make to my Vista PC so I can
access the FISC.

TIA
Paul.

Forgot to mention I can access the FISC from the Vista PC using the web
browser interface no problems at all.
Paul.
