Thanks for your help. My computer (homebuilt P233) seems to have a major
problem. When trying to boot I read the following errors:
************* BEGIN ***************
Starting Windows 95...
The following file is missing or corrupted: c:\windows\himem.sys
There is an error in your config.sys file on line 2.
The following file is missing or corrupted : c:\sample.sys
There is an error in you config.sys file on line 4.
The following file is missing or corrupted: c:\windows\himem.sys.
Warning: The High Memory Area (HMA) is not available. Additional low memory
(below 640K) will be used instead.
Not reading drive C
(Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail?)
************* END ***************
When I choose Fail I can view the C-Drive in DOS, but everything is super
slow. Could this be a hardware problem?
THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
---Chris
1. Has this problem existed since installing W-95 or was W-95 working
correctly and then the problem appeared?

***NO!, you have a software problem!
Edit config.sys and make sure the address of Hymen.sys is correct.
It should point to your windows\command dir.Once in awhile you get it
pointing to the hymen.sys,16 bit from old windows.
try that.
then email me.

Please remove 1 "P" for proper address
Check your BIOS settings for the hard drive....if your BIOS will autodetect,
let it, rather than setting it manually. Also, you should have used the fdisk
that came with Win95, the old one has problems with very large drives.

I had more or less exactly the same problem as this when I used the HIGHSCAN
option in EMM386.EXE. I had been using it with this setting for quite a
while which gave me access to more upper memory, and then it started playing
up and took AGES to boot up. I can't remember what started it off but
removing the HIGHSCAN setting sorted it out.
