I'm running into a GDI resource problem on a machine with MSOffice v4.3
running under WfWG v3.11. I freely confess that I'm out of my area of
expertise and would appreciate any suggestions or feedback...

When the system start up, the MSOffice toolbar and McAfee VShield are
running, along with two copies of ResGauge (one to monitor User
resources, one for GDI resources). At this point, I show User=77% free,
GDI=62% free. If I open a Program Group (e.g. Main) and close it, my
GDI resources drop to 60% free.

If I start WinWord6 from the MSOffice toolbar, I see User=66%, GDI=32%.
On closing it, these change to User=77%, GDI=55%. If I try opening
Excel while WinWord is already running, my GDI resources drop to 4-6%
free and <very> odd things (;-) start happening: apps won't start,
Alt-Tab cycles me through only two apps, the screen doesn't refresh
properly, assorted "out of memory" and "unable to display" messages
appear, etc.

All in all, it's hard to get a lot <done> on this system in its present
state.

What I have tried (with little effect):

- DELTREE all MSOffice directories and re-install from CD.
- Use Main->System Setup to switch display from "Stealth SE" to "VGA"
and back again.

System:

Pentium P90, PCI Bus, 16 Mb RAM
Phoenix BIOS v4.04 R2.02 06/28/95
Energy saver features
Video/System BIOS shadowing enabled
Diamond Stealth SE display adapter
Sigma Designs RealMagic IDE/MPEG adapter
Sound Blaster 16 SCSI
NEC 502 SCSI CDROM drive (SCSI 0) via ASPI2DOS driver

Can anyone suggest what might be causing the MSOffice apps to consume
GDI resources so heavily? My current resolution is set to 640x480x256.

Is there something really simple and stupid that I'm overlooking? Or
even some way to get more information on what exactly is happening here?
Any help will be appreciated.
