I have a Sony DSC-S30 digicam along with Windows XP Pro. When I attach
my camera I get the little icon at the bottom saying it is connected.
I don't get the scanner and camera wizard though for some reason. I
have to manually go to the removeable drive it creates and transfer
files from the drive. Does anyone know how to enable this? I don't
remember disabling it...can anyone help?? Thanks!

That is because the memory card is treated as a removable hard drive in that
it has PC format files on it a scanner sends data to the computer using
drivers. Believe me simpler is better drag and drop is great!

Aaron,
Your question sounds really odd to me because the "wizards" in Windows Me
absolutely drive me nuts! I hate Windows because of them! The wizards are
probably even worse in XP! Anyway, I would look in the help files on how to
use the wizard, and you should find something on how to start it manually.
There must be some way to do that, as long as you have the wizard installed.
Personally I would use the manufacturer's software to control the camera; it
was designed specifically for it! Windows can never do anything right...
But, if you want Windows to manage the camera that badly, and you don't have
the wizard installed, you'll have to try and reinstall that component in
Add/Remove Programs. I hope that helps.

Yes but see, I think you guys are missing the whole point of this
image transfer wizard. I can rename images before they are put on the
HD, and I can get that done much easier than a big picture dump onto
the hard drive, then having to go back and look at the pictures and
rename them accordingly....So I think this wizard is a good idea. I am
trying to find out where to enable this...I have been looking around
and haven't found anything as of yet. Anyone know how to enable this
wizard?

Hi!

Your problem should be easily fixed, try to right click the camera in "My
Computer" and select properties, under the property pane there should be an
option where you can select what to do when media is inserted. Under this
option you can select the Scanner and Camera wizard. When you connect the
cam, xp will think you inserted a new media and launch the wizard, worked
with my Fuji cam.

I tried what Bjorn suggested, but it seems that when I disconnect the
camera, and then reconnect it, the settings I just set are no longer
in effect. I have still not successfully started the camera wizard
when the computer is first connected. Anyone else have any
suggestions?

Aaron,

Try TweakUI, then My Computer, AutoPlay, Types, and make sure
Enable Autoplay for removable drives is selected. That worked
for me (the wizard stopped coming up for the camera, Fuji FinePix
1300, attached on my account with WinXP Home, but still worked
just fine with my wife's account). You might also check that the
Handlers section is set to copy pictures to folder (edit to see what
is set under Handlers) for digital images. And can you manually
start the wizard by Start-Run-wiaacmgr?

Martin,

Thanks for the help on this. Unfortunately, this didn't start the
wizard for me either. It is very strange. It did however file explorer
to popup with the removeable drive selected. I will try a few more
things similar to this and see if that works better. Does anyone know
if I need to install any seperate drivers. I just plugged mine in and
let it go. Thanks for the help.

I am having the same problem...

I have a Fuji Finpix cam that shows up as a removable device. It did
bring up Windows Image Acquisition before, and still does under
different users on my XP pro machine.

I am also having this same problem with the same cam on a different PC
with XP pro.

I can not find a version of TweakUI that has the AutoPlay option
mentioned in this thread. Any help finding that would be helpful.

I also check support.microsoft.com for any help with this and I have
not found any info.

Thanks,
Craig
