The old wallaper only appears *after* she logs out; it isn't on the
logout screen itself. And it only appears for a few seconds while
the pc is in the process of logging out; it disappears when the login
screen comes up.
I know, it seems like a very minor thing. But my wife really dislikes
it and I can't tell her no. :-)
Any ideas?

Using REGEDIT.EXE, inspect the key
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
Value: Wallpaper
