I'm interested in fax software with optical character recognition. I'd
appreciate comments concerning the OCR capabilities of the existing
packages. Can they be used reliably for scanning printed text and
converting it into text files? I've been thinking about WinFax Pro primarily
because I can get it in an integrated communications package (Delrina's
CommSuite). It would be nice if I didn't have to worry about the com port
conflicts.

Thanks in advance,

I have FaxMaster by Caere (they put out Omnipage Pro), so I thought the
OCR capabilities would be good. IMHO the OCR capabilities are still
inadequate, at least if you are receiving a fax from a paper document.
Anything but the clear document with decent sized fonts comes through
the OCR process as garbage. I like the concept, so, hopefully, they will
continue to improve. For now, though, it doesn't come close to a scanner
and good OCR software. BTW, FaxMaster is fine for faxing; it (and
the others from what I've heard) just aren't ready for prime-time yet
when it comes to OCR.
