I am trying to recover some files that I *think* I backed up in Win 3.1 with
the Windows backup prog. It is NOT the one that saves *.qic files, but the
earlier 'cc123456.001' type files. I was sure I used WIn 3.1, but on
installing it on a spare machine, I cannot find any backup prog at all - and
no 'Add Windows components' for a backup.

Am I dreaming or did Win 3.1 have a backup prog - and if so, any ideas how I
can get it, or find a prog to read my discs?

TIA,

Dave D

This one came with MS-DOS, 6.0 or 6.2 and later.

The Windows 3.1 version of MSBackup is in the C:\DOS directory and is
called MWBACKUP.EXE.

Some or all of the following files may be required:

mwbackf.dll
mwbackr.dll
mwbackup.exe
mwbackup.hlp

Thanks for the info - I think I need the old DOS disks, which I believe puts
the backup in c:\dos for Win3.1 to access!

Last days I had same troubles.
You have to try out the different versions of MS DOS 6.0, 6.2 & 6.22. The great
オ$ has always changed the compression software and therefore also the
compression of MSBackup and MWBackup-Programs of different version are
incompatible.
In same versions there is no problem to restore MWBackup-Files with the
MSDos-Backup-Program.

Good Luck, Martin
