The New York Times has just started an on-line banking center which
has comparative rates for various banks (deposit interest, loan rates,
and, comparison of on-line banking.)

The on-line banking section currently lists 5 banks (Bank of America, Chase
Manhattan, Citibank, NationsBank, and Wells Fargo). For each bank, they
give the monthly charge for account access and on-line bill payment. The
introductory offer, software requirements (Quicken, MS Money, other) and
access network (private, internet, etc.) are also listed.

I got my notice about this service today, and am hoping that, as time
goes by, a more extensive lists of on-line banking providers will be
included.

The NY Times on-line banking center can be reached at:

The information posted on the web page is in error, I believe. I recently
received notice from NationsBank of the availability of PC banking. When I
checked on details I was told that the only software option is to use the bank's
"free" software which only costs $5.95 shipping/handling. From what I have read
this is MYM from Meca which is now owned by NationsBank and Bank Of America.

The web page referred to in the posting says that NationsBank supports Quicken
and MS Money as well as MYM. As I said, I don't think this is correct. I also
question whether BOA supports anything other than MYM.

Have been signed up with Corestates bank for a while (partner with quicken
or money).

It is free! As long as you keep some very MINIMAL amount in there (under a
few hundred bucks). Sure beats the other banks charging $10 or so a month
for bill payment and on-line banking.
