However, most of the material in the Minix 1.5 Reference Manual is now
available online. Many of the commands have extended man pages --
useful for programs like elle, vital for Minix-unique programs like
mined. These are included in the section 9 manual files on the Minix
2.0.0 CD, and in several forms on the main Minix site at
ftp.cs.vu.nl. They are also available as MS-DOS compatible text files
at ftp://minix1.hampshire.edu/pub/minix.2.0/2.0.0/manuals/cat9.
Much of the rest of the Minix 1.5 manual is also available. This
includes the introductory material that tells you how to use it (like
that the root password is Geheim) and the specialized installation
chapters for some of the non-Intel versions of Minix. At
minix1.hampshire.edu these chapters can be found in the directory
/pub/refman.1.5.
That's the good news. The bad news is that, due to problems in network
configuration external to minix1 the system has been inaccessible over
the past weekend. Problems may persist. Hampshire College is
installing a firewall, and although continuing access to minix1 will
be available, there may be difficulties until all the bugs are worked
out. It could be helpful in resolving these problems if anyone having
trouble getting access to minix1 would e-mail me with details of the
problem, including type of access (http, ftp, login) and date and
time.
