A silly question? Why does Minix require an AT controller?

Perhaps I'm wrong... (won't be the first time), but I've been given
the impression that Minix won't run on my AT because I have a hard-drive
which only has an 8-bit controller. Now if that's true, how can Minix run
on a PC? You don't expect to get a 16bit bus in a PC do you?

If it doesn't require that, then why does my XT controller by Western
Digital not work with Minix? It appears to die the same death as my hard-
card.

Is the demo-disk an AT only thing? Can I get Minix for a PC and run it
happily on my AT?
