I have a .96c+ installation package based on MCC.96, but
with a simpler installation, and drop in X11, available
on sc.tamu.edu. The following is from the README:

This distribution is based on MCC-interim .96c+.
The MCC release features:
- linux0.96c kernel
- gcc2.2.2
- groff
- man pages & viewer
In addition to all of MCC-interim, this package features:
- a simpler base installation and restore capability
- full kernel sources for local tailoring/patching
- X11 v1.1 with simple installation
- Charles Hedrick's serial performance patch

The installation disk supports the direct installation from
any compressed multivolume backup set, thus providing not
only simple initial installation from the distribution set,
but also simple restore from any backup set.

The package is available thru anonymous ftp from sc.tamu.edu.
Space requirements are:

Base package X11 package
3.5 inch disks 5 3
5.25 inch disks 6 4
hard disk space 10MB 10MB
