I recently installed Linux Mandrake 7.0 on my computer. Now the big problem
is that I own an Eone, yes, the Imac lookalike, which works fine except when
running Linux.
Linux is installed properly but I can't get the X server to
work/configurated. It detects the video card (Rage 3D XL AGP, Mach64 driver)
well but my guess is that the problem might be that the monitor uses fixed
frequencies. The documentation is pretty bad, so I am not too sure bout
this. It states for the horizontal range 57.1, 60.0 and 63.7 KHz and for
the vertical a range of 50-160 Hz.
When I run the utitlity XF86Setup (which is a graphical setup itself and
works!!!) my videocard is detected properly but when it tries to run the X
server, the monitor goes to standby or something.
If anyone has fixed the problem for the EOne please let me know, or if you
know some other methods which might work.

You might try running xf86config which is a text-based setup and has the
option to put in the horiz sync manually. You would enter them with a comma
between each. XF86Setup may also have that. I just remember seeing the bar
graph and the selection of VGA, SVGA, etc. Fixed frequency may be one of
the selections.
After doing that, the question will be if any of the Modelines will run with
one of those. If not, there is still hope. It will take some doing, but
you can make a modeline that will require one of those horiz syncs. I did
mine using a doc on my system called
/usr/doc/HOWTO/XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO
Here is a modeline calculator that might be easier. It shows the calculated
syncs.

Before looking at that, I recommend that you read Howard Mann's fine pages
on X.

I hope just putting the fixed freq's in there will work for you. But if
not, well you will be learning something about the subject. The Timings How
To is heavy stuff. Try that last.
