I have had RedHat 5.1 installed for a month or so and have just started
trying to use minicom to dial school again.
Anyway, I ran minicom as root, Setup the default configuration, minicom
initializes the modem. OK so far. But not when i hit Alt D to setup
and get a dialing directory all i get is random characters on the
screen. Alt Z does the same thing. The Ctrl D and Ctrl Z do not do
anything either.
I checked RedHat errata but could not find anything. Any ideas
Thanks, Doug Bryant

Ah yes, I know this problem. I get the same thing because for some
reason, the ALT Keys don't seem to be recognized in the native shell
windows. The way I got around it is to be in X-windows and open an rxvt
window and run minicom. There, the ALT keys are recognized and minicom
seems to work normally.
Now, does anybody know how to make the default bash shell, or nxterm
window under X-windows understand the ALT Key?

Thanks, James Rasmussen, for the info about running minicom under rxvt. The
Alt keys work there for some reason.
I am going to make an assumption and say that I DO have the Alt key bindings
(not sure if that term is appropriate) b/c the Alt key works under Netscape
and Applix.
